A significant investment in laser cutting machinery was announced by Thomas Storey Fabrications Group Ltd, the leading UK manufacturer of steel fabrication products. The Group has recently purchased a MAZAK OptiPlex fibre laser cutter designed for high-speed, precision steel cutting.
Yamazaki Mazak is a leading global manufacturer of best-in-class machine tools using the latest technology and innovations. Its laser cutting machines have an enviable reputation for energy efficiency, low maintenance and high precision, versatile material processing.
Phil Ramsdale, Technical Director at TSF Group, said: “This is our second laser cutting machine from MAZAK. Investing in fibre laser cutters allows for faster production times and increased productivity whilst at the same time ensure excellent edge quality even when cutting intricate parts.”
TSF Group boasts a 100 year history and a strong value proposition of “Reduced Production Costs, Outstanding Customer Care and Lower Carbon Footprint”. With over 150 designers, engineers, welders and machine operators, the Manchester-based manufacturer produces fuel tanks and chassis for HGVs, construction vehicles and coaches, as well as a range of steel fabricated products.
Fibre lasers consume less energy than traditional CO2 lasers resulting in lower operating costs and smaller environmental footprint.
“For our customers, dealing with a low-carbon provider is increasingly important. We are trying to be as energy efficient as possible with challenging annual CO2 reduction targets across the site. But we also look at the entire supply chain and this was part of the reason we opted for MAZAK again. Their machines are made in Worcestershire in premises with comprehensive energy and sustainability policies including ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 50001 for environmental and energy management” Ramsdale continues.
From concept design and prototype production, TSF Group can produce, fit, assemble and dispatch large volumes of products that slot seamlessly into a customer’s production line. The new MAZAK machines offer compatibility and integration with Industry 4.0 technologies for improved efficiency, productivity and data-driven decision-making.
“We are a British manufacturer using UK-sourced steel and our energy efficient operations with documented year-on-year improvements provide a real benefit to customers seeking to reduce their overall carbon footprint. Partnering with MAZAK enhances our green credentials and we are very pleased with the results” Ramsdale concludes.
